Trapani thermoelectric power plant occupies an area of 9.2 hectares. It is located in the western part of Sicily, about 15 km south-east of the city of Trapani. It consists of two OCGT (Open Cycle Gas Turbine) units powered by natural gas with net installed capacity of 213 MW.
In 2013 the two gas units were revamped with the replacement of turbines (from B technology to E), generators, transformers, alternators and the installation of DLN (Dry Low NOx) devices due to reduce NOx’s emissions. For each group, the capacity has increased by approximately 25 MW compared to the previous power of each unit.
Environment, health and safety’s protection
The power plant was one of the first industrial sites in Sicily included in EMAS Register. After revamping completion, NOx and CO2 emissions have been drastically reduced and the efficiency of the plant has increased more than 33 %.
It is part of the Energy Authority list of essential plants for the safe operating state of the western area of the Sicily in an alternative scheme, in particular, the site has a crucial role in case of blackout in the power restoration procedure of the power grid managed by Terna.
