The new unit
at Ostiglia power plant

The project, construction started in September 2022 with a planned timeline of about three years, envisages a new combined-cycle unit (CCGT) with a nominal electrical capacity of about 880 MW, technologically designed to be fueled by hydrogen blended with natural gas.

Thanks to the installation of cutting-edge technologies such as the state-of-the-art 9000HL gas turbine developed by Siemens Energia, and the use of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems for NOx abatement, the new unit will ensure an efficiency rate exceeding 62 percent and allow, with equal energy produced, a reduction in specific emissions and meeting the most demanding national and European guidelines.

This project contributes to the country’s journey toward an efficient and sustainable energy transition and to the stability of the national electricity system, thanks to highly flexible low-carbon generation that balances the discontinuity of renewables, thus contributing to the achievement of the decarbonization goals set by the Italian Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan.
