The new unit
at Tavazzano and Montanaso power plant

The project was unveiled in July 2020 and construction work began in September 2021. It envisages the construction of a new combined-cycle unit (CCGT) consisting of a state-of-the-art GT36 H-class gas turbine, engineered by Ansaldo Energia, technologically designed to be fueled by hydrogen blended with natural gas.

The new unit, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the first half of 2024, will have a nominal power capacity of about 800 MW and, thanks to the installation of this cutting-edge technology, will guarantee an efficiency rate higher than 62 percent, further reducing specific emissions and meeting the most demanding national and European guidelines.

This project contributes to the country’s journey toward an efficient and sustainable energy transition and to the stability of the national electricity system, thanks to highly flexible low-carbon generation that balances the discontinuity of renewables, thus contributing to the achievement of the decarbonization goals set by the Italian Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan.
